Whilst on a recent trip to Cornwall we were highly recommended to drop in to Scarlet Wines and the Vineyard Table situated in Lelant, near St.Ives. This is a wine shop, delicatessen and restaurant in one that also serves great seasonal coffee from Cornish based roasters Origin.
The food here is fresh, Mediterranean, bold in flavour and truly delicious. We arrived just in time for breakfast where I fully embraced the vibe with baked eggs, spicy tomato, feta and chorizo with toast on the side to mop up with. So good.
Other breakfast items include cinnamon toast and creamy porridge or anchovy toast with poached eggs, parsley and red chilli. There is the full and small cooked breakfast as well of course, both come with delicious homemade baked beans.
Scarlet’s main menu includes “food inspired by Spain, Italy, Southern France & the sun drenched street cafés of Morocco & Lebanon”. With fresh seasonal salads, flatbreads, delicious sharing platters and much more, served in a mezze style, I could’ve stayed and grazed all day.
The deli offers an enticing range of the best local ingredients as well as speciality ingredients from Spain and Italy.
And then there is the wines! Stocking around three hundred wines at any one time including many Cornish offerings, the list is ever evolving.
With such a relaxed atmosphere and surrounded by great food, great coffee and hundreds of bottles of wine, this little taste of the Mediterranean in sunny Cornwall could be my idea of heaven.
