Sugar Junction, the ‘tea and cocktail emporium’ in Manchester’s Northern Quarter has been around for a while now but it was only this past weekend that I got to sample some of their wares for a friends birthday.
Full of chintz and an unmistakable vintage vibe it has all the trappings of a typical tea room but has upped the ante with a fully licensed cocktail bar that is open late, and their own special blend of teas.
The tea menu is vast including their very own Northern Quarter blend of Sri Lankan Black Tea with caramel and hops and the lemon and lime infused Zing a Ling a Ding Dong tea.
The food menu is equally mouth watering with an American feel and if I wasn’t in the midst of dry January I would’ve been all over the Gin based cocktails.
There is plenty to make you fall off that new year diet wagon, (they do mac ‘n’ cheese – enough said), and indulge yourself with for a little while. Not to mention the big and boldly flavoursome homemade cakes. We tried the chocolate orange sandwich cake which was light and fluffy with a refreshingly big citrus smack in the face. Good scones to.
Of course you can take a traditional afternoon or gluten free tea here and don’t overlook those milkshakes!
Tucked away on Tib Street, Sugar Junction epitomises every girls vintage tea room dream. With china cups, loose leaf tea, cocktails and cake this place has got sugar and spice and all things nice, ’cause that’s what us girls are made of.
