As much as I love tea you can’t have a tea room without offering up a good cup of coffee. One of the places I like to get mine is Coffee Fix in Gatley, Cheshire. A family run shop that begun with a small mobile coffee cart, trading at summer festivals and providing private hire before the dream of the shop became a reality. The friendly staff welcome all walks of life in to their shop which is a popular stop off for keen cyclists. Passionate about coffee they offer up a wide variety, I’m a sucker for a good old Americano and theirs hits the spot. The food here is also not to be missed. With the lure of a hot and sunny day, my other half and I whizzed down to Coffee Fix for brunch just the other morning and took up a table out front. I ordered the full cooked breakfast (from £6.25) which included my Americano. It was a good plate of non-greasy, perfectly cooked breakfast items that hit the spot. Best of all the bacon was well done – there’s nothing worse than floppy fatty bits of watery bacon slipping around on the plate. And there were homemade baked beans.
Mr tea room was in his element having ordered up a Dirty Beans special which was a mix of homemade baked beans with chorizo sausage and spicy polenta wedges, topped off with a perfectly poached egg. Nom nom nom.
We also ordered a couple of glasses of refreshingly homemade apple and mint iced tea.
It doesn’t get better, except to say they do oodles of tea and cake to. All cakes are baked in house but they don’t hang around for long! If you snooze you loose.
On a more personal note, two friends of mine recently organised for us to have afternoon tea at Coffee Fix – not something they usually do but since it was a special occasion they were more than happy to arrange. I say they should make it a regular thing as this was one of the nicest afternoon tea’s I’ve had (and I’ve tried many) with no scrimping, and plenty of everything including the wonderful kindness of the lady who made it for us. Delightful.
